Week 4 Post 2
James 1:12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial.
Tasha Layton - Worship Through It (feat. Chris Brown)[Lyric Video]
I have had the opportunity to be in municipal court every month while I was a court clerk. I have also been on the other side of it a few times. Telling your story can be daunting. Knowing there are lawyers, judges, a court clerk, a court officer, maybe a detective or an officer who are all there presenting or listening to decide what happened and what should happen next. Words are being weighed and tested for truth. People are being evaluated by their actions or lack of action.
My last work environment was fraught with trials of the life kind. Working in a difficult environment while remaining truthful, faithful and not get caught up in the circumstances you find yourself in takes a lot of integrity. In the end, I could no longer run the race and left. I was lucky to have that option although it came with financial hardship. You always want to leave a place better than when you found it and I am proud of that but lives were not changed and maybe that was not what God wanted from me there.
Many of God’s people endured trials. Jesus was sent before the Sanhedrin and the officials at the time. John, Paul and Peter spent time in jail because of their faith. Daniel was sentenced to the lion’s Den. Often we face trials every day that don’t, thank goodness, end up in a courtroom. I think about times when people around me would gossip, disagreements that turn hostile, rudeness and all those annoying things of life where you are called to be the light, to react differently because you are convicted to be Christian in your response.
Romans 5:3-5 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
We learn from scripture that trials refine us, and that we are not alone but we have God’s love that has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
If you find yourself in a trial, call out to God to help you through it.
Response question: How has God brought you through trials?
