Week 6
Philippians 4:19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Vertical Worship - Miracles (Official Lyric Video)
If you have ever lived in the fringe of financial disaster you may read these words and wonder how that works out.
There was a time in my life when I was a single parent, working three jobs with very small children.
Looking back, my needs were met through God’s provision. I had jobs, I had childcare, was it ideal?
No, but I did what I had to do to provide for my children. Later, as that same single parent I lost my job
through no fault of my own. As I was driving home from being let go, I felt a weight lift off of me.
I knew the workplace environment was terrible but I needed the job. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do,
I had no savings, living paycheck to paycheck. This spelled disaster for me and yet it didn’t. This came after
a series of events where I wanted to be done fighting everything and everyone. It seems struggle was my new
normal. God provided me with help when I needed it and saw me through this storm.
In this passage however, Paul is addressing how he found contentment in times of need and times of want.
I think that when God provides us with what we need and more than we are to give to others. He provides extra
for us to share. In either case we are to rely on Jesus Christ to see to our needs and how we should share our
abundance.
We can also see how this passage can pertain to our spiritual needs. Prayers, faith, support in day-to-day living,
maintaining relationships are all needs we experience. It is clear that Jesus can provide for us because He loves
us as His own, we just need to ask earnestly and have the strength of belief.
Response question: What needs has God supplied for you?
